Henry Home Review

Let me pose a question to you. What is better than an extremely reliable, tough and well-built vacuum cleaner that comes with a set of useful attachments? The answer is one that comes with even more attachments! Henry Home is essentially just a regular Henry, but with four extra attachments that improve its cleaning ability, particularly for those hard-to-reach spots in the home that are usually neglected. This review will not delve into too much detail regarding the standard attachments that the classic Henry comes with (as well as this machine), because we have already covered this in our original review. However, we are going to look at how useful these extra new attachments are and weigh-up whether the extra cost for the Henry Home is worth it.

Is Henry Home the right vacuum cleaner for you?

Henry Home is a functional, mid-range vacuum cleaner that is pretty affordable. It comes with strong, sturdy attachments that you swap around depending on what you are cleaning. He is not particularly light and is not the best for stair cleaning, so if you are looking for something ultra-lightweight, I would look elsewhere. There are no fancy technological advancements on display here, so that is worth bearing in mind. However, if you like the idea of a vacuum cleaner that is built to be tough, that can take a few knocks and bangs without getting damaged, and that will most likely last for decades with great cleaning results, please read on.

How does Henry Home differ from the original Henry?

The only difference between Henry Home and Henry is the extra four attachments that come with Henry Home. These include the AiroBrush floor tool, a dedicated Hard Floor tool, a Flexi Crevice tool and Multi Angle tool. Both machines also include the standard Combi Floor tool, smaller Crevice Tool, Upholstery Brush and Soft Dusting Brush.

They both have the same dust capacity (6 litres), weigh the same (7.5 kg), prouce the same amount of power (620 w), and are the same size (320 x 340 x 345 mm).

Unboxing and Assembling

Henry Home vacuum cleaner box contents

It is truly impressive just how much the manufacturer Numatic manages to fit into such a compact box, and I very much doubt my ability to pack everything back inside the box, the way it came. Inside the box I found the conical hose, three metal pipes that form the wand, the Combi Floor tool (for vacuuming hard and soft floors), AiroBrush tool (which has a rotating brush roll for stubborn pet hair), a dedicated Hard Floor Tool, an upholstery brush, a soft dusting brush and crevice tool, a longer Flexi Crevice tool and lastly, a Multi Angle tool. Furthermore, there was a dust bag pre-loaded and an extra one provided, as well as the instruction manual.

To assemble Henry Home, I screwed the conical hose onto Henry Home’s nose, connected the three poles together to form the wand, and then slid the other end of the hose onto the wand. Then, I attached one of the two floor tools to the bottom of the pole, plugged in the machine, and flicked the switch on top. Somehow it is all very intuitive and obvious, so much so that I didn’t even look at the instruction manual.

Standard Floor Tools and Accessories

Henry Home comes with the two standard floor tools and three additional attachments that the regular Henry comes with, and we have already reviewed those in our review of the Henry vacuum.

Extra Floor Tool and Attachments that make Henry Home Unique

These are the four extra tools that make Henry Home unique.

The real purpose of this review is to discover what makes Henry Home unique in particular, so we are going to focus on the extra floor tool and attachments that you get with Henry Home.

AiroBrush floor tool

Henry Home vacuum cleaner AiroBrush floor tool

The AiroBrush is a major upgrade from the standard combi floor tool. It has a rotating brush roll that is driven by an internal fan (which itself is powered by the suction power created by the motor). This spinning brush roll has a row of firm, tough bristles attached to it, which agitate stubborn hair, dirt, and other debris and lift it away from the carpet, up the hose, and into the dust bag.

The Henry Xtra also comes with the AiroBrush, and when we reviewed that machine, we tested the pickup performance of the AiroBrush compared with the combi floor tool. You can see the results below:

The AiroBrush does lift away more stubborn dirt

This test used a mixture of pet hair, lint, and other dirt and in total, 4 strokes were used for both floor tools (2 up and 2 down). As you can see from the results, the AiroBrush is definitely better at removing stubborn dirt, and therefore this floor tool is a serious upgrade from the combi floor tool and ideal for pet owners, in particular.

Dedicated Hard Floor Tool

The standard combi floor tool can be used on hard floors as well as carpeted areas, so this dedicated hard floor tool is not really necessary in my opinion. It is nice to have if you plan on vacuuming large surface areas of only hard floors, as it is lighter than the combi floor tool, but I still do not think it is totally necessary as the combi floor tool already does a great job on hard floors.

Below is a comparison that we did with the dedicated hard floor tool vs. combi floor tool for the Henry Xtra (which also comes with the dedicated hard floor tool) and you can see that the difference is negligible:

There is not much difference between the dedicated hard floor tool and the combi floor tool

Flexi Crevice tool

The original crevice tool is my favourite attachment that comes with all dry vacuums in the Henry range, because it is so effective at reaching those really tricky, tight spots and gaps in the home and particularly in the car. Therefore, I was intrigued to test out this much longer and more flexible version of the original rigid crevice tool.

Firstly, the sheer length of the flexi crevice tool with the universal adapter attached is impressive, allowing me to reach underneath my wardrobe and all the way back to the wall. This is a good example of a tight gap in my home that is usually completely neglected by the vacuum cleaner. With this tool attached, I was able to give the carpet trapped underneath the wardrobe a really good clean and remove all of the dust that had built up.

Fantastic reach in tight gaps around the home

With the length of this attachment already proving it’s worth, it was time to find a use for its flexibility. But first, here is a shot of just how flexible this attachment is:

Very flexible

This tool was very useful for vacuuming inside my car, with so many tight, deep crevices down the sides of the seats and between the seats and the central column that were too narrow for even my hands to reach in. The flexibility of the tool certainly did help when it came to manoeuvering it around these tight spots to ensure that the nozzle was not just concentrated on one area. All in all, this is a major upgrade to the regular crevice tool, and I can imagine it being very useful for all kinds of scenarios in the home.

Cars tend to have so many tight gaps that are ideal for this tool.

Multi-Angle tool

Now we have mentioned the Henry Xtra a couple of times in this review so far, and it is true that the Xtra does also include both the dedicated hard floor tool and the AiroBrush. However, it does not include either the flexi crevice tool or this multi angle tool, which is a spaceship-looking attachment with all kinds of practical uses. This multi-angle tool has a clever hinge that allows you to vacuum at all kinds of different angles, which makes it ideal for cleaning different surfaces that are high up in your home, such as shelving and the top of wardrobes.

This attachment (along with all of the attachments) can either be connected directly to the hose using the universal adapter, or on to the end of the wand, which is particularly useful for reaching areas that are high up.

The multi angle tool was very useful to not only reach those high up areas but also to ensure that those areas were vacuumed effectively, thanks to the hinge that allows a flush, flat contact between the bristles and the surface you are vacuuming. This is a definite improvement on the original, smaller soft dusting brush.

Our Verdict

So is Henry Home a significant upgrade from the standard Henry, and is it worth the extra money? In my opinion, the two attachments that really make this a better option for homeowners are the flexi crevice tool and multi angle tool. Both of these offer superior cleaning results and usability when compared to their older counterparts that come with the regular Henry. The simple fact is that you will be lifting away more dust from those hard-to-reach spots in your home with these two attachments in your vacuuming arsenal.

The AiroBrush is useful, but only really if you have pets, and in particular, dogs. It certainly is better at lifting away stubborn dirt, but it has to be said that the combi floor tool is perfectly effective for everyday carpet cleans. The dedicated hard floor tool is not particuarly necessary in my view, as the combi floor tool also does a great job on hard floors as well.

So who should buy this, and under what circumstances? Well, this machine is suited for homeowners, and if you are able to purchase it for a little more than the price of the regular Henry, I would recommend you go for it. In my view, Henry Home is a better investment than a Henry Xtra, because the Xtra does not come with the flexi crevice tool or multi angle tool, and Henry Home does come with the AiroBrush.
